Shred Bill 20

Bill 20: The Municipal Affairs Amendment Act has been described as authoritarian, an attack on local democracy, massive overreach, and a stripping away of Albertans’ rights. The UCP government introduced this Bill following their proposed legislation that would block municipalities from accessing federal funding unless they ask for the province's permission.

The UCP government is ripping away the ability of municipalities to effectively serve Albertans and the rights of Alberta voters because they think they know best for every corner of the province, and every person in Alberta.

To: Legislative Assembly of Alberta, in the Legislature Assembled

We, the undersigned residents of Alberta, petition the Legislative Assembly to prevent the authoritarian overreach proposed by the Premier and the UCP government, ask that the UCP government listen to Alberta communities who have grave concerns about the erosion of our democracy, and call on all members of the Assembly to vote against Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024.
